This was a great backstory in the official pen, but honestly I think I had already imagined most of this from getting through book 7 already. Would have liked a bit more content, so only 4 stars.
Felt that the episode where Sol is surprised by his drive was one of the worst because there was so little detail! This helped bring it to a conclusion!
Great story. Fast paced and full of good ol’ fashioned techno-babble (that actually sound legit!) about politics in space and the limitations of technology. There’s an over-arcing tough of realism in all these stories that I just love, and I look forward to reading more.
Here is a precursor story to flesh out barely mentioned characters in the greater story to follow. More like this would be fun but we can only hope.
A short story about the origin of the Epstein drive. To avoid spoilers I wont say too much. There are two intertwined narratives. One is a love story. The other is a classic hard-core-SF story is the tradition of the early RAH stories (The Green Hills of Earth comes to mind.). Both competently executed.
