Sometimes family is there to love you, and sometimes family is there to kill you… When a man came into my shop in the Great Marketplace at the Crossroads of the Worlds and tried to kill me, it completely ruined my day. Not only did I have to clean up the blood, but disposing of his body made me late to meet my friends for drinks.A nagging little detail kept bugging me, though. As he died, he said he was hired by my mother’s family—people I hadn’t seen for more than a decade. Then I discovered that assassins had made attempts on my brother and sister as well. As much as I didn’t want to, I decided I should find out who wanted us dead, and put a stop to it.Talk about stepping out of the pan into the fire…
Engaging story, well-written, and blissfully not full of typos, bad grammar, or plot errors. I enjoyed it and look forward to Book 2
I liked the writing style but the length was a bit much for me. Great book to read fun and entertaining
The story was riveting. Never a dulI moment. I look forward to more from this author, hopefully in this series
Great main character that keeps you engaged from beginning to end. I hope there are more stories to be told!
Kingsley is an excellent author and this book is no exception. The main character is a woman, and the story, a multiverse romp, is written in first person perspective. She is basically creative and thoughtful, just as we all wish we could be. And Kingsolver has developed consistent rules and cultural values for the world she has created, it’s well written enough to be reread. I hope she continues this story line. This is the third series I’ve read of hers, and they were all excellent stories.
Great lead character, well fleshed out worlds. I enjoyed trying b to guess the villains an I can’t wait for the next book!
