What chance does a small-town girl have with a world-famous rock star? Two years after his wife’s death, rock star Garrett Hayes hasn’t moved on. But he has moved out of L.A. Where better to escape his past than a small town in the northern California mountains? If only he could get the townsfolk of Wildwood to leave him the hell alone. Ani Bennet returned to her hometown for some much-needed serenity. The last thing she needs is a grumpy, too hot for his own good, rich and famous rock star living next door—and rent-free in her brain. She set her fangirl tendencies aside and deleted his photo from her cell when they became neighbors. But when Garrett asks for help, she can’t say no. The problem is, spending time together is making those fangirl feelings resurface—and bringing them to a whole new level. What chance does a small-town girl have with world-famous rock star? It’s time for Ani to set her fears aside and find out.
I love Kylie Scott’s books and this one didn’t disappoint! I’m hoping we get more of another rock band series from her.
Love reading her books. Some of her books are entertained by characters so when you pick up one she has you so engrossed with the characters that you want to pick up the next book to read about the other characters.
I expected a lot of heavy emotion based on the blurb, but the story was a bit lighter and I was OK with that. Garrett’s world stopped spinning 2 years ago when his wife died, and he has been just surviving without living since then. When he finally decides to visit the house she purchased before her death as a potential getaway and safe haven for them in the future, he never expects to find a new reason to live.Ani tried leaving her small town for the wilds of LA once, but she has come back home a little worse for wear after a traumatic experience. When she realizes who her new neighbor is, she tries to protect his identity for as long as possible both for his sake and to avoid the destructive crush of fans and paparazzi overtaking her quiet little slice of peace. He initially reacts with suspicion, but when his fellow band member and best friend Smith appears on the scene, we realize Ani has taken up space in his head rent free just as much as he has done for her. There are moments ranging from hilarious to heartwarming, and at times Garrett seems to be able to switch gears to find his comfort zone far faster than Ani. But all in all, this was a great read that made me smile.
I never thought Kylie could do rock stars better than Stage Dive, but I’ll be damed! You will enjoy this world too. Great characters, storyline and lots of humor. Oh! And kissing. LOTS of kissing.
I love all of Kylie’s moody men. Garret and Ani, what a great story! I feel like the town’s story isn’t done. I’m hoping to get more…with some Smith all tied in.
Kylie Scott writes such great chemistry. I really enjoyed how Ani and Garrett made their way from neighbors to friends to more. It was sweet and wholesome while also being sensual and sultry. Not only are Garrett and Ani wonderful, so is the cast of side characters. From the people in Ani’s small town to Garrett’s bandmates and friends. They all keep things interesting and bring a levity to many of the scenes. I especially enjoyed some of the older folks in town and how the reacted to Garrett and later protected him.Ani has such grit. The way she stands up for herself when it’s needed is inspiring. She’s been through a lot and has every reason to hide away from the world. Which she is actually doing to some extent. But when she finds herself drawn to Garrett and ready to open up she finds that she has quite a strong backbone and she’s much tougher than she thought. While I finished this story quite quickly, I didn’t engage with it to the same extent as I usually do with this author’s books. It was great and I thoroughly enjoyed the story, but there is something I cannot quite put my finger on that was missing for me. Again, still a terrific story.
