Funny Feelings By Tarah DeWitt
Book/Novel Author: Tarah DeWitt
Book/Novel Title: Funny Feelings
When falling in love is the punchline…Farley Jones is being forced to date Meyer Harrigan, the man she has come to love, in order to make all of her stand-up dreams come true. It’s agony— a tragedy, even. In lieu of flowers, please send cash…Meyer and his daughter Hazel have been everything to her since they came into her life three years ago. So, all joking aside, the stakes are especially high when it’s not only her career, but both of those relationships on the line.A former stand-up star himself, Meyer has been vital to the trajectory of her career since he began managing her… Since he became her closest and most treasured friend, in the process. This friendship is the only reason why, when the biggest opportunity of Farley’s career includes thrusting him back into the spotlight to stir up publicity, he agrees— in spite of his grumpiness, his protectiveness over Hazel, and his disdain for public attention. It doesn’t take long for their act to bring all those other funny feelings out into the open, and, like most matters of the heart, it quickly begins to feel like anything but a joke.Funny Feelings is a swoony story about friendship, love, and looking for the laugh in life. It touches on the creative spirit and all that comes with sharing that gift, and how oftentimes the comedians in our lives are the most sensitive, or struggling. It features two friends, one incredible little girl, and a kaleidoscope of feelings along the way.
Absolutely loved it. Adorable and sweet with a hint of angst this feel-good friends-to-lovers is a story that leaves me warm and giddy. The mutual pining is achingly sweet and if I wasn’t laughing I was grinning while reading.
This book was so refreshing- no crazy drama/3rd act breakup. This is filled with mutual pining- and so many swoon worthy moments. It takes a fake dating scheme for them to both open up about their feelings- of course they both assumed the other couldn’t possibly feel the same way. There’s of course a bit of drama towards the end- but it was handled maturely and I appreciated that. Things weren’t broken off- they talked it out and slowed things down but they stuck together. That’s not something you often find.I really enjoyed the ASL rep!
This was a great read! Incredibly poignant, loving, sweet and well rounded. Farley is a strong young woman whose umbrella breaks just as she bumps into Meyer & Hazel. Their love story will be a part of me forever.
Beautiful story about love, life, and the ups and downs of life… being human. I just loved it. I look forward to reading more of her work
I made the mistake of starting this book at 10 pm while unwinding from the day. I then proceeded not to sleep so I could devour the book, while laughing and crying as silently as I could so I didn’t wake up my husband trying to sleep next to me. I am a driven woman who has ADHD and I related to Farley on such a deep level. She is brilliant and funny and kind. She is a hot, disorganized mess. She is a great friend and mother, she is insecure and lonely. She is every woman who doesn’t fit the perfect mold of modern conservative womanhood. Be proud that you are different. Be true to yourself and be kind and that’s all there is to it.
I hadn’t read this author, so didn’t know what to expect. What a pleasant surprise! The characters were well rounded, likable and had great dialogue. I found myself laughing often. The relationship between Farley and the daughter Hazel I loved. I will definitely re-read. This book was a favorite this year.
