*USA Today and Toronto Star bestseller*Full of romance, hijinks, and longing, Good Girl Complex is Elle Kennedy at her very best. She does everything right. So what could go wrong?Mackenzie “Mac” Cabot is a people pleaser. Her demanding parents. Her prep school friends. Her long-time boyfriend. It’s exhausting, really, always following the rules. All she wants to do is focus on growing her internet business, but first she must get a college degree at her parents’ insistence. That means moving to the beachside town of Avalon Bay, a community made up of locals and the wealthy students of Garnet College.Twenty-year-old Mac has had plenty of practice suppressing her wilder impulses, but when she meets local bad boy Cooper Hartley, that ability is suddenly tested. Cooper is rough around the edges. Raw. Candid. A threat to her ordered existence. Their friendship soon becomes the realest thing in her life.Despite his disdain for the trust-fund kids he sees coming and going from his town, Cooper soon realizes Mac isn’t just another rich clone and falls for her. Hard. But as Mac finally starts feeling accepted by Cooper and his friends, the secret he’s been keeping from her threatens the only place she’s ever felt at home.
4/5 ⭐ OVERALL 3/5 STEAM “First of all, they say? Who’s they and who cares? Every relationship is different. Some people want, some people want passion. We define our own relationship. And second, I hate to break it to you, but we’re both argumentative jack*****.” I have seen lots of mixed reviews on Good Girl Complex. Mostly, people saying it’s pretty much an exact replica of another popular book, or this book is glorifying toxic relationships, and there was no epilogue. The horror!! It’s okay not to like a book. And, it’s ok that a book isn’t for you. But, I have to disagree on the fact that Good Girl Complex is almost an exact replica of that popular book that’s been turned into a movie (I’m sure you guys know what I’m talking about). So, just in case people don’t know this, books can have the same tropes without them being a copy of another book. That’s all this was. Good girl falls for “bad boy”, if that’s even what you want to call Cooper. Also, the relationship started with a lie. But, okay, that doesn’t make it the same. And, I honestly didn’t find Cooper and Mackenzie’s relationship to be all that toxic. They argued and liked it, so what! I’m beginning to wonder if I read the same book as these other reviewers. I was kind of anticipating a 1 star read, and this is probably why I don’t normally read reviews beforehand. Ok, sorry for the Ted talk! I read this book fairly quickly because I found it hard to put down. I enjoyed Cooper and Mackenzie’s banter; the plot was good, and I really liked the characters. The chemistry could’ve been a tad better, but in all, it was a solid 4-star read for me. The character’s developed like they should’ve, and I was thoroughly entertained with the drama. Thank you, Elle Kennedy, for writing another wonderful book. I can’t wait to read Bad Girl Reputation. If you’ve been steering clear of this one because of other people’s opinions, I absolutely recommend it, even if only to form your own opinion. Happy Reading
Rating: 3.5 stars Mac and Cooper’s relationship is super messed up and toxic right from the jump. Relationships founded based on an elaborate revenge plot will do that, I suppose. Still, the chemistry between the two is really amazing. Mac is an entrepreneur who’s part of the rich kids college crowd, and Cooper is a bad boy townie who hates the college “clones” with a passion. There’s a little bit of an enemies to lovers vibe, but Mac doesn’t realize she’s the enemy… and then they become friends and the friends to lovers and mutual pining tropeyness abounds. This also required some suspension of disbelief on my part, because I had trouble understanding how Mac is somehow a self-made millionaire based solely on her founding of two websites that basically sound like Reddit threads. O…kay? I also struggled a bit because so many of the characters were just downright unlikable – even Cooper and Mac at times. Mac’s roommate Bonnie is the only character I was whole-heartedly in it for. Still, both Cooper and Mackenzie some really great self-growth and come out the other side stronger individuals for it. And like I said, their chemistry is really amazing, with really fun banter especially when they’re in a sort of frenemies stage of their relationship. This is a fun, flirty, steamy new adult college romance. I’m not sure if this is part of a series – the title says it’s “an Avalon Bay novel,” so I’m hoping so because I’d REALLY like Bonnie’s story!
There’s really nothing I love more than an easy, fast-paced read about a small coastal town romance, and this was no exception. Mac is a clone, and yet she is fiercely independent and determined to make her life her very own. She is a self-made millionaire who has passion for creating and innovating. She loves others intentionally and doesn’t allow money to cloud her judgement or alter her personality. Her sharpness and wit make her more like a townie than a clone. She thought she was happy with her life and where it was going, and then she meets him… Cooper is a townie, working his entire life to make ends meet and try not to end up like his parents. He’s a toooootal bad boy… or so you would think based on his cool demeanor and tattoos. Deep down, he’s just a big sweetheart who would do anything for the people he loves. Which is why, when his inner circle hatches a plan for revenge, you just know it can’t possibly end well… Gosh, I LOVE this book. The only reason is gets 4 stars instead of 5 is because the ending felt a little bit crammed and rushed. But other than that, this book was such a fun read ✨
So happy to have finally gotten my hands on this book. It’s my first book by Elle Kennedy and I was not disappointed! I loved Mac and Coop’s story. I loved the friendships that were imbedded within the story. I loved how invested the author was in Coop’s POV. I felt like I knew him a lot more than Mac. I cannot wait for Evan’s story! I wanted to read more about him. If you’re into steamy, coastal town romances and opposites attract- look no further!
Holy Cannoli, this book was H.O.T! I don’t know what it was, but… damn. Cooper Hartley lived up to his reputation! I was so wrapped up in this story from the very start. I absolutely loved Cooper’s tough exterior. It’s always the one’s that are hard to love that need it the most! Mac was just the girl he needed:) I really enjoyed the small town beach vibe. I loved all the secondary characters, even Heidi lol, and hope that this is only the beginning to a new series. I would absolutely die for Evan’s story! Elle Kennedy is one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to see where she take us from here! I highly recommend The Good Girl Complex! Review by Lys
I enjoyed Mac and Cooper’s new adult romance story! This had the vibes and plot of a CW series (and that’s a good thing!) – rich girl who wants more out of life than what her parents dictate – hanging out with the local bad boy – local bad boy who is more than his reputation – beaches and dive bars and bonfires – rescue dog – drama with exs and old hookups – townie/rich college kid turf war I liked Kennedy’s previous books in her Briar U and Off-Campus series, and this looks to be the start of another great one!
