I was really excited when I found out the English translation of this book had finally landed so I bought it immediately. As a fan of The Untamed I was already acquainted with the story and in love with the characters. I will be honest: I don’t know whether I would keep reading if that was not the case. The writing takes a bit of getting used to (or maybe it’s the translation. As a linguist I know how hard it is to translate literature) for someone who like me is a rookie in this kind of fiction. It felt childish at times, like how one of my students would write it, with a lot of rather cartoonish language (the transcription of laughter sounds drove me crazy, lol) and quite a LOT of telling instead of showing. That said I couldn’t put it down and I will definitely read volume 2. Also, kudos to the scriptwriters and actors in the TV series for an excellent interpretation of the characters’ personality and for keeping mostly faithful to the story. The illustrations throughout the book are also wonderful and I’m excited to finally (the last 1/4 or so of the first volume) begin seeing a romance developing between the two main characters (which is after all what made me fall in love with the story). Looking forward to Book 2.
Absolutely love this book. The characters are easy to love. The story flows beautifully. Highly recommend.
Can I have the second book please!!?? Mo Dao Zu Shi aka The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation aka The Founder of Diabolism is the book series that introduced me to MXTX. This book has a combination of comedy, action, mystery and a second chance romance. Wangxian (Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangi) are amazing together. The translation of the book was pretty solid, a couple of hiccups here or there but it didn’t detract from the overall story and flow. The book cover and artwork is fantastic. It appears we are heading towards the Yi City Arc which is a treat. 5/5 stars PS. If you plan on watching the animation (donghua), I recommend reading this book first as it will help clear up some things that were either missed or censored in the show.
Love this so much!! I’ve been waiting for the official translated version for so long, the colored pages that are at the front when you open the book are beautiful. I love that they put a glossary at the back, it’s very helpful for those who are still getting the gist of what certain words mean. Can’t wait for the second book to be released!
I don’t like the idea that I have to wait until May to read the second half and then six more months after that due to it being put in English I understand but I still don’t like it. I do like the idea of them being together I really loved the series actually I’ve watched it may be a total of nine times now and I will be getting it again thank you for all the work that you have put into this I really appreciate it I look forward to getting the other books
Well I’m not sure what to say. I read this novel online and I like the translation by that person. I couldn’t wait to read this novel but I wasn’t automatically pulled into the story. I can tell there is a difference between the two different translators – the online and the book. There were some name differences and extended story line. So I’m concerned about the book translation. I hope I won’t be disappointed with this three volume set.
