Clever trick on the reader at the end! I this was the best look of the four,or is that because the two characters are familiar and I’m growing fond of them? Initially I couldn’t take to Alex – thought he was self absorbed and didn’t like how every book presented him with a woman to fall for. This one seemed less formulaic to me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Although there’s still the woman!
I always enjoy LJ Ross for her ability to write a new book each time she tells us a story. Spoiler alert. This book is good right to the unexpected ending. Yes very unexpected ending this time.
One of the best authors ever! I started reading L.J Ross two years ago because I am a reader of British crime books. I got hooked with the first book and now wait impatiently for the next one. I love the fleshed out characters of all his books and the in and outs of the stories, mostly I love not being able to determine “ who done it “ as is the case with many authors I have read. Plus, I find it refreshing not to have a exceptionally awful murder scene described in each horrific detail. (Ido like to sleep at night). I read less American crime writers then I used to, but I still remain a few. LJ Ross I am glad I stumbled across your work!
Did I miss a page or two, Bill Douglas was being confronted by Carl Deere and it seemed as if he was going to be killed? Next, Dr. Gregory appears and Bill has wounded his finger on a potato peeler. WHAT HAPPENED?
Good book for mystery readers that has some interesting and suspenseful events that will have you turning pages will also keep you on edge.
One of the few disappointing LJ Ross books I’ve read. I don’t understand the ending…a set up for the next book? What happened to the professor at the end? Was it a hallucination? Cut finger? I don’t get it. It was as though the previous set up didn’t even happen before Alex Gregory arrived. Was the chapter missing? Really disappointing.
