But whoever went to the trouble of planning his death to look like a casualty of war did not know he would be assigned to the Seventh Sikaria Auxiliary Squadron. In the depths of an unforgiving jungle, a legend is about to be born, and the world of Elan will never be the same. From Michael J. Sullivan, the three-time New York Times, two-time USA Today, and three-time Washington Post bestselling author, a new adventure begins with the first book in The Rise and Fall trilogy. Although this series is set in the same world as the Riyria novels and the Legends of the First Empire books, it is a standalone tale. As such, no prior knowledge of the other works is required to enjoy this tale to its fullest.
I”m a longtime Michael J Sullivan fan and his ability to consistently write with such a high level of excellence never fails to amaze me.He starts another exciting series with “Nolyn” which is full of the character develoment, plot twists and turns and in depth writing that Michael never fails to deliver in book after book, series after series. I can’t wait for the rest of this series!
I just found Michael J Sullivan last year and have read all of his books of the world Elan and have loved every one of them. Nolyn is a great start to his new trilogy.
I’m sure this review won’t convey just how much I love this book and the world and characters Michael J. Sullivan birthed. I’ve read all of Riyria and Legends of the First Empire books and am looking forward to the Rise and Fall books. Nolyn is a worthy addition to the books that came before. I was so sad to leave the Legends of the First Empire world as a satisfying conclusion to the Riyria saga. To see what led up to Royce and Hadrians adventures. The prospect of never immersing myself in that world made me sad. I was excited to know that he would explore further with the children of the first heroes. Nolyn, Sephryn, and company evoked the same feel and warmth. I cared about what happened to them. I worried that they escape unscathed…for the most part. Michael has done it about. I just wished it was longer, but Book 2 comes next Summer so there’s hope. I don’t want to give away plot points, but if you have not read Michaeil J. Sullivan before, you can jump right into this story no problem. Just don’t blame me if it becomes your new obsession and you are compelled to go back and delve further into this fully realized world…you’re welcome 🙂
Michael’s writing once again captivates you through ever odds turning moment. I do enjoy that his books can be read as stand alone stories. But I’ll admit I like how this ties into his previous series. Another prefect work of page turning artistry.
This book was so damn much fun.Clever story tellingand wonderful world building.I loved this book.Epic fantasy on a scalehardly seen these days.
This book was wonderful! Fans of Sullivan’s other books that take place in Elan will really enjoy this one too. The new characters are at once familiar and unique. The book started off with suspense from the start, and it never really slowed down. While the author says it can be a stand alone novel, I loved the easter egg nods to Legend of the First Empyre, and I suggest reading those first.
