Punk Love: ★ ★ ★ . 5 L.J. Shen “Feelings didn’t always have to make sense in order to be validated, to matter. Sometimes they just…existed.” It was a little hard for me to read a book where I actively know there isn’t going to be an HEA. However, I honestly enjoyed this little novella. Vanessa Edwin narrates the audio, and it’s a given that I will listen to pretty much anything that she narrates, because as someone who doesn’t like audiobooks, I am obsessed with her. Seeing as this is a re-telling of real life events and an actual person’s story, I won’t talk much about the plot or the characters because it is just literally what happened and who am I to pass an opinion on that? I enjoyed the easy to read writing and especially the quote I used above really which stuck with me because it’s hard to articulate that thought sometimes and that quote encompassed that well. The only thing I will say is that I felt like the constant “are you cheating on me” or “he’s off cheating on me” or “he’s going to go cheat on me” grated on my nerves, but then again this is literal teenage love. The ending felt a little rushed, but I understand not wanting to delve too much into a relationship that she considered to have been with her soulmate, because that cannot be easy to talk about even to this day. Anyway, this was short and sweet, even if the era was a very different one from mine. I did like Alex, and I can totally see how he inspired many alpha heroes from his personality. What is it with good girls liking the bad guys? I don’t know, but I am proudly a good girl who will always go for the bad guy.
I shouldn’t ever doubt the ability of this author to engage me no matter the subject. I certainly wasn’t disappointed with this book! Another win for L.J. Shen!!
Could not put this down. Sweet story. Really thought I know how it was going to end, but I was wrong. L: So glad this story rekindled your love your craft. You will always be one of my favorite authors!! ♥️♥️
This was definitely different, but that different was actually refreshing! This is a cute short novella, telling a story that is based on the authors “first love” which doesn’t end in your typical HEA but with a happy ending nonetheless. It’s an easy read, it’s one I feel every reader will see some of their own teen experiences in…..I really enjoyed it!
I really liked this book. The main characters were great and relatable. Having grown up a few years ahead of them I still felt nostalgic for the 1990s.
The only reason I take off a star is because it’s really more about coming of age rather than a true love story about the two MCs
