A woman’s heart proves as infinite as the night sky in a breathtaking fantasy by Wall Street Journal bestselling author Charlie N. Holmberg. When a star dies, a new one must be born. The Sun God chooses the village of Endwever to provide a mortal womb. The birthing of a star is always fatal for the mother, and Ceris Wenden, who considers herself an outsider, sacrifices herself to secure her family’s honor and take control of her legacy. But after her star child is born, Ceris does what no other star mother has: she survives. When Ceris returns to Endwever, however, it’s not nine months later—it’s seven hundred years later. Inexplicably displaced in time, Ceris is determined to seek out her descendants.Being a woman traveling alone brings its own challenges, until Ceris encounters a mysterious—and desperate—godling. Ristriel is incorporeal, a fugitive, a trickster, and the only being who can guide Ceris safely to her destination. Now, as Ceris traverses realms both mortal and beyond, her journey truly begins.Together, pursued across the Earth and trespassing the heavens, Ceris and Ristriel are on a path to illuminate the mysteries that bind them and discover the secrets of the celestial world.
A fantasy written with a delicate hand, it sparkles throughout the tale. Ceris is portrayed in strong heroinesque images, but retains a realistic portrait of an earthly mortal. Beginning as a joke-loving, callow young woman, over the next 350 years Ceris grows into a wise and loving semi-goddess. She finds hope and strength in the continuity of family. She values the power of truth, trust and sacrifice. She understands that life brings both scars and beauty. In the time we are given, may we learn the same lessons.
I love fiction, it’s my FAVORITE. This book was a very interesting take on celestial bodies and their relationship with one another in the universe. The author brings them to life and gives them a personality and purpose. The book was intriguing and hard to put down. I love to read but often find the demands of life and TV series steel my time from reading. I hadn’t picked a book up to read in over a year. So I was glad that this book had a great intro and grabbed my attention early on. I have already preordered the authors next book in this series!
Good book, a bit predictable at the beginning. Didn’t understand what was so wrong with being with the sun god? Initially she was content with marrying a man who didn’t love her, and this guy actually wanted her. Why didn’t she want to stay with him, or go back with him when she had a choice. Why did she have such a pull to Ristriel? He gave me toxic boyfriend vibes lol. Maybe that was the point?? To the bad reviewers who said they didn’t understand how she could go 700 years in the future and old buildings were still there and how people recognized her just from a statue… please think about life from 500 AD to 1200 AD not many notable advances in technology. It really isn’t terribly far fetched, never mind the fact that it’s a fiction novel. In terms of the statue vs girl, most well read people can probably identify a bust of Julius Caesar and not one person alive ever met him. If that priest has been staring at her face every day praying at her feet he is going to know every inch of her face and put it together when the real woman shows up. I think y’all were just looking for something to hate on.
It may be because I’ve listened to so many of this author’s books back-to-back over the past two weeks straight, or it may be that the story just didn’t grab me as all the others have but I didn’t truly get invested until much later in the book. The narrator did an amazing job. There was nothing unclear or weird but…I’m…torn about how I feel about the story. I’m still giving the story 4 stars because, as I reminisce over it, Ms. Holmberg has, as usual, given me a thoughtfully unique, well-written & well-thought out book full of action, adventure, turmoil, sacrifice, a meaningful storyline, & memorable characters. I don’t know, I may just have to return to it to listen again before Star Father is released.
This is a five out of five star book. I’d give it ten stars if I had the option. I loved the mythology of the book and discovering what this world was. It is filled with twist and turns and a the ending is perfect. It completes the tale perfectly with no cliffhangers or questions why? It’s a beautiful book.
I liked this book quite a bit. There are still a lot of questions I have about the world they live in (likely answered in the upcoming sequel), but what I do know about it is very interesting. The main character was strong and I liked her voice.
