The Cuckoo’s Call By Lily Morton
Book/Novel Author: Lily Morton
Book/Novel Title: The Cuckoo’s Call
Can a summer romance last forever?Wren Roberts thought he’d found his fairy tale when he met Mateo Rossi on holiday in Majorca. The wealthy and successful older man swept him off his feet, and before he knew it, he’d thrown caution to the wind and was living in Mateo’s waterside apartment in Venice. It’s a far cry from his harsh upbringing and crummy flat in London. But as the summer turns to autumn, cracks begin to show. Mateo’s family aren’t welcoming, and there doesn’t seem to be a place for Wren in Mateo’s world. He could have coped with all of that, but Mateo himself seems like a different person away from the sunshine island.Should Wren have been more cautious in riding off into the sunset when he wasn’t sure what lay over the horizon? From bestselling author Lily Morton comes a romance about two men who find that sometimes happily ever after doesn’t end there.
Lily Morton can be the most amazing writer. I love a lot of her books. This one is really sweet. I like that the mc’s aren’t arguing all the time or acting weird. You get to watch them fall in love and it makes sense. There’s no insta love, although they are fascinated with each other from the beginning. They don’t have huge misunderstandings and there’s not a bunch of angst. It’s just really good writing that sweeps you along.
I loved this book, I couldn’t put it down. A little less humorous than Ms. Morton’s other books, but the romance more than compensates. The MC reminded me of Felix, my favorite character of hers. This story is a modern day fairy tale. Beautifully written. In my opinion Ms. Morton’s work is getting better and better.
Such a sweet and passionate romance. A beautiful love story that was very well written and thorough as you felt you were there with the two MCs. Highly recommended.
This book has such a sense of place as most of this author’s books do. Her characters are always so well crafted and memorable and the great humor and warmth that they have is so fun to read.
I think at this point I have read every single one of Lily Morton’s books. This one has all the same charm as a lot of her other work. I also enjoyed the small cameos we got of some past characters from After Felix and Sunshine Charlie, and looking forward to Enzo and Alfie’s story.
A very sweet tale of an unlikely pairing that is perfect by every measure. An overheard conversation sparks laughter and the joy grows from there.
