Summary

You can never truly know what goes on behind closed doors… My darling son, Sam, is marrying his childhood sweetheart and I couldn’t be prouder of the man he’s grown into. Walking out on his abusive father all those years ago was the best thing I ever did. And today he stands, tall and handsome, saying ‘I do’ to my dream daughter-in-law. If I hadn’t pushed them together all those years ago, he might never have found a girl as perfect as Lauren. It’s true what they say, mother always knows best. But weeks later, Lauren is dead and police cars fill the driveway of their idyllic countryside home. As they question Sam, I sense he’s hiding something. Why won’t he look me in the eye? And who does he rush off to meet as soon as the police are gone? Desperate, I do what every good mother would do: I let myself into Sam and Lauren’s bedroom. What I see, I will never be able to forget. My son’s beautiful new wife was hiding a dangerous secret. Can I clear my son’s name? And could my life be in danger now too? A completely gripping, utterly twisted thriller that will leave your jaw on the floor. Perfect for fans of Gone Girl, The Wife Between Us and The Woman in the Window. First, this is not a gripping thriller however, it is a good slow burn dysfunctional family drama. I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the narrator. I thank Netgalley for the opportunity to listen to and review this audiobook.
This book was riveting. I had to listen to it and one go. The twist and turns we’re never ending. At the very end where you think you’re done it gives you another blow amazing.
Excellent, riveting psych thriller you will NOT want to put down! Sue is a wonderful writer who expertly weaves suspense with drama, and adds plot twists out of the blue. I’m eager to read lots more from her!

Georgie’s son, Sam was marrying his childhood sweetheart, Lauren. Georgie, a single parent, following the breakup of her stormy marriage. and Lauren’s parents, Tim and Helen were so happy. They were all together…one happy family. Lauren and Sam were opposites. Lauren, a doctor was happy, wild and full of life, while Sam, who had a degree in Environmental Studies was employed by a National Park and was more reserved and conservative in his actions. Different lifestyles merging together. Sam worked long hours and Lauren resented this, living in a cottage in the Moors away from civilization and felt isolated and scared. But weeks later, Lauren is dead lying at the bottom of a staircase. An accidental fall? Suicide? Murder? Police cars fill the driveway of their countryside home. Sam is questioned by the police and Georgie senses he is hiding something so decides to investigate. She goes to Sam and Lauren’s house to have a look around and discovers that her daughter in law was hiding a dangerous secret. The evidence gathered by the police reveal Lauren was deliberately pushed…and Sam soon becomes the prime suspect. And when he’s arrested for her murder, Georgie, vows to clear his name. Will Georgie be able to clear her son’s name? Sam loved Lauren. Who would have killed Lauren and Why? This is an excellent fast-paced addictive psychological thriller/domestic drama that will keep you guessing, lots of suspects, secrets and twists along the way make this an addictive read. Twists and turns and volatile unexpected ending that I did not see coming. Highly recommended! Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and Net Galley for my digital copy.
It took 90ish pages to pull me in but you need the 90ish pages to lay the foundation for the rollercoaster that the rest of the book is. You’re given clues during those chapters so keep sharp and don’t give up on it. You don’t know who to trust even until the very last page. Well done and I definitely recommend.
An awesome read!! Just when you think you figured out “whodunit”…another twist comes along! A great book! I hope part 2 will be coming soon!
