As a refinement tutor, Mrs. Juno Langton helps young ladies develop the skills and confidence to secure an advantageous marriage. Her cheerful disposition never wavers no matter how challenging her assignment. When a house party provides an opportunity to match her difficult charge with a duke, Juno will go to any lengths to satisfy her employer and ensure the young lady’s future. Too bad the duke is an unsmiling, rigid grouch, albeit an irritatingly handsome one.The Duke of Warrington dislikes social gatherings and despises the Marriage Mart which makes it nigh impossible to find a wife. He plans to secure his future duchess at a house party, but she’s being managed by a thoroughly meddlesome—and provocative—Mrs. Langton, who is determined to find his better nature. He’ll do anything to avoid her sunny charm and room-brightening smiles, but she’s breaking through his shell and the only way he can think to keep her quiet is to kiss her. He must marry the young lady, not desire the companion. But now he’s rethinking his wife choices.
Darcy Burke is one of my favorite regency romance writers. You can always count on her to deliver a really good story that is well written. This story is Juno and Dare’s love story. I only had a few hours and really wanted something that I could finish in that time frame and this delivered. Both the H & h are strong characters and I really liked them both. I did like the way Juno brought out the best in Dare. She did make him a much better man. I really enjoyed the epilogue too. Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy!
What to do, what to do? Our “poor” hero, Dare-the Duke of Warrington, needs a bride. This should be easy for a duke, but in his case, he’s a total grouch. Aww we still like him though, and really enjoy watching as… instead of falling in love with his intended match (Marina), he falls hard for… her companion/match-maker, Juno. You just know she’s going to be so good for him, it he can just let her past that rigid exterior. I loved these 2!
The Rigid DukeMrs. Juno Langton and Alexander Brett, Duke of Warrington or Dare as he is known are polar opposite, she is engaging, and outgoing, he is withdrawn, private, and hates social gatherings.I loved this sometimes grouchy, sometimes awkward definitely anti social Duke. As it pains him to go into social gatherings he must so he can find a bride. As he spends time with his prospective bride, he finds her companion annoying, meddlesome, and very intriguing. The more time he spends with Juno the more she understands him and brings out his lighter side.Juno Langton loves her job but her new charge is going to be a challenge that she intends to accomplish. As she chaperones her charge and her intended she finds herself in a inconvenient situation. Her biggest challenge will be not falling for her charges intended.Great captivating story with opinionated strong characters.I was given an ARC.
I’m not usually one to read stories written in this era, but holy Toledo am I glad I decided to read this. This story was very captivating, that I’m 1/2 tempted to continue reading these chronicles. BTW, where does one find their own Dare?
When I feel like I need to travel to the regency era, I find myself repeatedly turning to a Darcy Burke novel. The Rigid Duke was just that book for a rainy weekend. Juno is a woman who has faced adversity in life and has taken charge of her own, in an age where women were better seen as a pretty flower on a shelf. Dare knows he must take a wife, but would rather do it on his own terms. He didn’t see this spitfire coming. Together they are explosive. An attraction neither wanted but neither can deny. Loved it!
A Darcy Burke book is always a yes to me. Her female characters do not subscribe to the script of the time, they are strong, with firm minds while navigating society. The dukes and earls are attractive and passionate but one stays with the protagonists always.Juno Langston had to find a way to get by after being pushed aside by her aristocratic family. As a governess to young ladies who go out in society, helping them to be social, smile and dance gracefully to attract a husband. Her job is put in jeopardy when her last student and the duke her family chose cannot exchange more than a few brief words, forced to be in the middle, the duke begins to take an interest in the wrong lady and begins to challenge the calm and structured life that she had put together for her.Strong characters, incredible chemistry and spicy romance are the ingredients of this amazing book
