Nola Trenholm is hopeful for a fresh start in the Big Easy but must deal with ghosts from her past—as well as new ones—in this first book in a spin-off series of Karen White’s New York Times bestselling Tradd Street novels.   After a difficult detour on her road to adulthood, Nola Trenholm is looking to begin anew in New Orleans, and what better way to start her future than with her first house? But the historic fixer-upper she buys comes with even more work than she anticipated when the house’s previous occupants don’t seem to be ready to depart.   Although she can’t communicate with ghosts like her stepmother can, luckily Nola knows someone in New Orleans who is able to—even if he’s the last person on earth she wants anything to do with ever again. Beau Ryan comes with his own dark past—a past that involves the disappearance of his sister and parents during Hurricane Katrina—and he’s connected to the unsolved murder of a woman who once lived in the old Creole cottage Nola is determined to make her own…whether the resident restless spirits agree or not.
Just can’t put down your books Karen. Thank you! I’ll be recommending to my sister and Mom shortly. I’m looking forward to learning more about Sunny.
I love love love your books I met you years ago at Monroe ga library for first time reading one of your books now I can say I have read everything you have written I m advid follower thank you for journeys i have enjoyed everyone of them
I read the Tradd Street series and fell in love with the characters, Charleston and Karen White’s style of writing. I was a little sad to complete the series so I was delighted to have it continue in this way.
This book has twists and turns and mystery and romance and is set in one of my all-time favorite locations—New Orleans! You don’t have to read the Tradd street series to love this story. I fell in love with the new characters, especially Jolene and her wholesome ways, love of baking and tips that reminded me of everything my mom would tell me that I used to ignore. And I’m so glad this is book begins a brand new series. It’s a must read and definitely a book club suggestion.
I love all of Karen White’s books. Her description of the sights and sounds of the city her characters are in transports you to that location. I love the mystery and human nature she infuses into her books. This one is every bit as good as her Tradd Street books, and I hope she continues Nola’s story!
I have been excited to read about Nola’s new adventures since hearing about this book after ending the Tradd series. I love that series and all of its characters! I wish Ms. White made Nola more original. Instead, she started to recreate Melanie within Nola. It’s like she struggled to give Nola who own identity. It was difficult to get through as the book followed a similar storyline as the House on Tradd Street. Regardless how disappointed I was in a remake of Tradd Street, the last few chapters did draw me in. I absolutely love Jolene’s character, although I think she may be a bit Stepford Wives-like. I hope that Ms. White can stop looking back at Tradd Street and make these characters really shine. Nola was always a great supportive character in the series. I really want to see where she can go when she is part of the main cast.
